The Tennessee teacher accused of kidnapping his 15-year-old student admitted to his wife that he had sex with the girl, according to a new report.
Jill Cummins, the now estranged wife of Tad Cummins, said he copped to the disturbing act during a jailhouse phone call just days after his April 20 arrest, she told Inside Edition.
“I said, ‘Well, did you sleep with her?’ And he said, ‘Yes I did,’” Jill said. “And I didn’t want any details but I knew the truth. I just wanted to hear it from him to me.”
Jill filed for divorce last month after Tad ran off with Elizabeth Thomas, filling a prescription for erectile dysfunction drug Cialis before skipping town with the teen March 13.
The pair’s sudden disappearance sparked a nationwide manhunt until they turned up last week in a remote section of northern California, where they’d been crashing at a cabin.
Tad was arrested on a slew of federal and state charges that could land him a minimum of 10 years behind bars.
Jill said he begged for her forgiveness and apologized during the phone call – but she said she can no longer say “I love you” to him.
“It was very hard to hear his voice after all this time not knowing if I was going to hear it again,” Jill said. “But he told me he was sorry. He told me he loved me and to please forgive him.
“I of course went into a rage of, ‘Do you know what you’ve done to me? Do you know what you’ve done to your girls and your grandchildren?’ He pretty much just over and over said, ‘I’m sorry,’” she added.
Tad still calls Jill from jail — but she refuses to answer.
“I won’t let him hurt me like that again,” Jill said. “I will not let him betray me like that again. I won’t give him the opportunity, ever again.”
Thomas has since been reunited with her family. Her dad has accused her mother of abusing her for months.
