Get out of the water!
A startled Alabama beach-goer captured terrifying footage of a too-close-for-comfort shark on Friday, as panicked onlookers screamed at swimmers to get to shore.
“I am shaking this just happened!” wrote Kayla Rotenberry Blanks when posting the now-viral video on Facebook.
The shark, and two others not caught on video, came within “inches” of someone swimming at Gulf Shores, Blanks said. Several swimmers didn’t speak English, but a few brave sun worshipers jumped into the infested waters to get their attention, she said.
“There was some volunteer fire men from the Montevallo Fire Department (Shelby County Alabama) that jumped in and kinda alerted and got them out of the water!” she told news station WKRG.
A city spokesman told Patch the shark in question may have been a hammerhead, which have, albeit rarely, attacked humans.
