The day would’ve been spent celebrating their wedding anniversary, but instead a Georgia man was arraigned for his wife’s death.

Walter Lowe, 51, appeared in court Monday after his wife of one year, Erica Powell, was found shot to death, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Lowe is accused of fatally shooting his 46-year-old spouse in the head at their home in Medlock Park, Georgia.

Police said her 12-year-old son discovered the body Thursday night in the master bedroom.

Powell’s son said that he initially saw Lowe — his stepfather — leave the house, but did not notice anything suspicious.

The boy was home for about three hours before he found his mom covered in blood from a gunshot wound, news station WXIA reported.

Police were called to the scene, but were not able to revive the woman.

Lowe turned himself into police Sunday and was charged with aggravated assault, murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to authorities, Lowe was previously arrested for beating and threatening to kill Powell in 2015.

The charges were dropped after Powell signed an affidavit to have them dismissed.

Powell’s daughter Keaundra Jackson told the Gwinnett Daily Post that although authorities failed her mother before, she hoped that they will get her justice now.

“To the Gwinnett County’s district attorney office, I called you all for help and no one listened when I was saying he was going to kill my mother if no one helped her,” Jackson said. “My family is hoping you all will be willing to give justice in death since you didn’t give her justice when she was alive.”

Lowe remains in custody and will appear next in court on August 1.
