Police in Hialeah, Fla., are searching for a man who doused his pregnant girlfriend with gasoline and lit her on fire — all while her two young children watched, cops said.
Noel Grullon, 32, and his 27-year-old girlfriend of 6 months were arguing over cigarettes when the woman went outside to calm down.
When she came back inside the home, Grullon torched her, causing second degree burns to her upper torso area, according to WSVN-TV.
The woman, who is carrying Grullon’s baby, ran to the shower and extinguished the flames.
“It took most of the day for her to finally admit to a social worker what had really happened to her,” Hialeah Police Sgt. Carl Zogby told CBS Miami. “At first she was saying it was a barbecuing accident.”
The victim’s children — a 1-year-old and 4-year-old from another relationship — watched the incident unfold, police said.
Grullon, who also goes by “Noel Castro,” fled the scene in his 2007 black Ford pickup truck, authorities said.
He is currently on probation after spending 12 years behind bars, NBC 6 Miami reported.
“It could happen to anyone. If he’s enraged enough to set his girlfriend on fire, what is he going to do to the neighbors?” a neighbor of Grullon told WSVN.
