Ex-Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega dead at 83

Former Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega, who was a one-time US ally and a key figure in central America, died after a battle with cancer.

The former strongman, who took power in Panama in 1983, died Monday in Panama City, a government officials said.

Noriega had been in the hospital recovering from an operation to remove a brain tumor. He was 83-years-old.
